The Sino-Soviet Dispute (1970) By Keesing's Research Report

This report, written by the editorial staff of "Keesing's Contemporary Archives," traces relations between the Soviet Union and Communist China since the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949. It shows how, after the Treaty of Friendship, Alliance and Mutual Assistance of 1950 and the subsequent period of cooperation, differences between the two countries arose after Khrushchev's accession to power; what the ideological controversy on the nature and aims of present-day Communism is about; how it gradually led to increasingly bitter polemics; what territorial and border disputes exist; and what armed clashes have led up to the present confrontation. The report, which includes extensive quotations from documents, is based on material published in the "Archives" from time to time, and also on information that has subsequently become available. The object of the report, as of the "Archives," is to record the facts without comment as objectively as possible.
