Planning Meat Ration Meals (1944) By Commonwealth Department Of Health

A Paper booklet containing recipes during times of austerity in WWII. This publication was issued by the Commonwealth Rationing Commission and the Commonwealth Department of Health and is thought to have been printed in 1944. The opening page of this booklet is an introduction by Curtin explaining the crucial role Australia plays in the war effort, as it is responsible for supplying meat rations to Australian and American troops.

From January 1944, meat coupons for adults could purchase an average of 2¼ lbs (just over 1 kg) of meat per week, depending on the cut. Children received half the adult ration. Meat rationing continued until 1948.
