New Zealand Observer Postcard 'Samoa Yielded without a Struggle.' (c.WWI)
A humorous depiction of New Zealand's bloodless annexation of the German colony of Samoa at the start of WWI.
Shows a cartoon of a Samoan woman leaning on the shoulder of a New Zealand soldier on a Samoan beach. A German lolls on a hammock in the right background, and says: 'You can have her an velcom but hurry up mit der trade'.
This refers to the New Zealand occupation of German Samoa in 1914, and to the impression that German business interests did not mind, so long as their trade links were not affected.
