An account of the life and naval career of Admiral Sir James Somerville, who's experience included that of Fleet Wireless Officer at Gallipoli, between the wars as Executive Officer and then Captain of a succession of battleships in the Mediterranean Fleet, on receiving his Flag as Rear Admiral (Destroyers) of that Fleet, Command-in-Chief of the East Indies Station after which he was temporarily retired from the Royal Navy because of ill-health but was brought back in WW2 to command Force 'H' in the Mediterranean and then Command in Chief of the Eastern Fleet, seeing out WW2 in Washington as Head of the British Naval Mission.

 

 Still the best biography of the legendary commander of Force H and major contributor to the development of the Far Eastern fleet.
