Commando Comic #263 'Low Level Lanc' (1967)
THEY said Aussie Pilot Tim Lawler's crews sometimes came back white-haired after a single trip. Why? Take a look at the Lancaster bomber he flew-
Wingspan: 102 feet. Weight: Nearly 30 tons.
Bomb-load: The heaviest bomb ever carried by a wartime bomber-the fantastic 22,000 lb. "Grand Slam".
The Lanc just wasn't meant for chucking around the sky like a Spitfire. But somebody forgot to tell Tim. He took his 30 ton, 100-foot monster and hedge-hopped, dive-bombed, got involved in dogfights and aerobatics-treated her in ways her makers never dreamed of.
There had to be a reason for Tim's crazy behaviour There was.
