A Kind Of Cattle (1985) By Barney Roberts

A kind of cattle is a poignant and poetic memoir of one man's experience as a prisoner of war of the Germans during the Second World War. Barney Roberts was taken prisoner on 29 April 1941 at Megara on the Greek mainland. By cattle truck and forced to march, he and his friends were taken to a labor camp in Northern Yugoslavia where they suffered filth, overcrowding, malnourishment, and illness. This documents the physical odyssey of his journeys. This is a valuable memoir because very few Australian prisoners of the German have given an account of their experiences.
